It has been six weeks since I entered Daddy and Mummy's lives and while it has not been a bed of roses, I'm really happy to be part of the family.
When I was discharged after spending three days in the hospital, I was very eager to find out what my new home was like - Would my bed be comfortable? Would Daddy and Mummy love me? When will I get to wear some nice and cool looking clothes?
My little mind was going through questions after questions and I just couldn't sleep. Poor Daddy and Mummy had a really long night trying to coax me to rest a while.
On the second day, a nice auntie by the name of Yuzhi came. Mummy told me that she was a confinement nanny and would be taking care of me for the next 26 days.
The days flew by very quickly and four days before Auntie Yuzhi left, we had a party to celebrate my first month. I had a great time enjoying the attention and cuddles showered upon me and was delighted to receive so many presents from all the nice uncles and aunties who turned up.
However, things changed on the day Auntie Yuzhi left.
Daddy drove Auntie Yuzhi to catch her ferry before going back to work, leaving just Mummy and me. Having just had my milk, I pooped and waited for Mummy to clean me up. After waiting for a while, I realized that Mummy was not aware that I had pooped and so I tried to let her know by fidgeting here and there. But Mummy didn't understand what I was trying to say and I got more and more agitated trying to explain to her. When Mummy saw how distressed I was, she also started crying while trying to calm me down.
This went on for about an hour before I eventually resigned to wearing a dirty diaper. Thankfully, Ah Ma came by half an hour later and found out the cause of my fuss.
Over the next few days, Mummy became increasingly upset and would even start crying for no reason. I was quite sure that I was the reason behind her tears and I tried to show her my cute side but nothing seemed to work. In fact, she cried more and more. I was beginning to feel that Mummy didn't love me after all.
Meanwhile, poor Daddy had to work AND look after me during the night.
Then one day last week, Mummy suddenly became happier. She started playing with me and laughed when I made funny faces at her. I overheard her telling Daddy that she recalled that they used to call me their lucky star and so she had resolved to take good care of me.
I was so glad to have my Mummy back!
Although it hasn't been totally smooth sailing for the past week, I must say that Mummy has really tried her best to look after me. I'm sure that with more time and practice, we will adapt to each other very well!
